Jo Kelly

Jo Kelly is a native of Los Angeles/Hollywood, California area who has first-hand knowledge of the film and television industry.  Jo’s talents are many and her enthusiasm for learning and exploring are endless.  During her 25 year marriage to Jack Kelly, star of many films and the long-running, popular TV series “Maverick”, she also raised a family and ran a real estate office.

After Jack’s death in the early 1990’s, Jo’s sister handed her a flyer that displayed the headline “Be a Movie Extra”.  Encouraged and hoping to make a career change, Jo answered the ad.  She paid $135 for annual dues and, sadly, got only one background acting job.  She’d been scammed.

On the positive side, Jo Kelly learned some do’s and don’ts of the industry and remained hopeful and kept trying to become a good background actor.  After eight years and feeling she had learned the ropes, including the legitimate places to register for work, she was on her way.

Today, with her signature effervescence, Jo presents common sense techniques and unique inside secrets to breaking into the acting world through background acting seminars and in her book “The Truth about Being an Extra/How to Become a Good Background Actor.
